A viagem leva aproximadamente 40-45 minutos.

We have recently talked about things to do in Dublin city center, but today we're talking about three places there are a must-see nearby Dublin.
We start by talking about this very beautiful, idyllic little village called Howth where I had one of my best trips in the country.
Howth -  was originally a fishing village on the north side of Dublin City, it has been developing over the years and become one of the most busy suburb districts of Dublin. It also served as shooting location for movies and TV series.
How to get there?
You just need to take the DART (the train) at Connelly Station or Tara Street Station. The trip will take you roughly 40-45 minutes. In the meantime, keep your eyes open because you are going to see many nice landscapes.
What to do in Howth?
First and foremost, it's important to remember
that it was a fishing village and before that, from around the 14th century, a trading port, therefore, the first place for you to visit is the Harbor. There you will be able to see many different kinds of boats and barges, and fisherman and sailors working. The place is full of birds, specially seagulls and ducks.
Another kind of sea animal that you are likely to see there are sea lions. They will come swimming very close to the boats and pier.
After taking your gander around, you can sit by a sidewalk café, just across from the port, and have a hot drink in order to feel warmed up - the winds there can be really nasty depending on the time of year. Also, you can take your drink and go sit by the pier just to watch the ocean, the sun set or rise - depending on the time you get there.
From the pier you can have a very nice view of the island of Ireland Eye and Howth Lighthouse, which is one of the quaintest lighthouses I have ever seen.
After doing that, you can walk up to Saint Mary church and graveyard. There you'll have the ruins of this old temple that was built five centuries ago, and also take in the wonderful view we have from there.
Then, don't fail to visit the prima donna of Howth, Howth Castle, which has been standing there for over 700 years. Stories about the castle, Lord Howth's family and ghosts are aplenty. So, if you are into history and old sites mystique, you just need to go there. Specially, because at the grounds of the castle, you have this collapsed dolmen - a neolithic portal tomb - that the enthusiasts should never miss seeing.
Finally, go up the hill - the climb is about 20 to 30 minutes because you will stop many times along the way in order to watch the breathtaking surroundings - from where you can have an astonishing panoramic view of the place while you take your pictures, hug your sweetheart and take in the magnificent landscape.

Malahide - Is a very quaint village situated on the north side of Dublin Co. and a place worth seeing. The trip by
bus will take you approximately 50 minutes, which you can use to fall in love with Dublin city a little more.
You can go there by DART or by bus. You can take the bus no 42 to Portmarnock at Eden Quay or across from Connolly Station.
Once you get there, leave the Station and either go for a walk around town or to Malahide Castle.
If you opt to go to the castle, it's on your right as you leave the DART station; if you go by bus, ask the driver to drop you at the main entrance to the castle.
There you'll have a very nice park where people get together to go jogging or on a picnic, play soccer (football) or just chat. Going around, you'll get to the castle itself and to the ruins of a church and graveyard, which is just by a delicious food hall and nice gift shop where you can also sit down, use the restroom and, of course, buy and refresh yourself.
You have to pay a fee to go into the castle - whose oldest part dates back to the 12th century - and the botanic garden. But going to the park, just in front of the castle is totally free.
From the castle you can go for a walk around the city whose houses are beautiful and colorful, and the people are nice going around the busy commerce zone. After doing your walking, just go down one of the slopes leading to the pier and a marina and let yourself feel the sweet sea breeze, just
walk along the pier and it'll take you to a nice sand beach - it's very windy there - where you can sit down, walk around, talk to people or go to another castle and keep on with your historic trip.
I loved Malahide for many reasons, I used to go there on the weekend just to unwind and photograph the place and people. Sometimes I sat down at the pier and had a nice talk with a local or just meditated watching the sea and thanking God for being out there.

Bray - Considered to be the most populated area in Ireland, it is situated on the south side of Dublin city and is a seaside resort. To get there from Dublin City Center, you can take the DART at Connolly Station or Tara Street Station - the return ticket cost me at the time 5.80 euros. The name "Bray" is not English - which would mean "the loud and harsh sound (as of a donkey)" -, but it comes from the Irish word "Bré" that stands for Hill. It means that you can go for hike to the summit of Bray's Head where you'll have a huge cross and a wonderful view of the place.
From there, you can go to one of the cafés, or
restaurants on the foot of the hill, or just walk the seaside promenade, sit down and see life happens or just relax in front of the pebble (also called shingle) beach and get amused by people going into the sea and coming out shaking because of the wind (of course, depending on the time of year you go there - I went there in the fall, it was bitter chilly).
Also, you can go to the National Sealife Centre, which is a very nice aquarium, with a variety of fish and sea related stuff, and where you can buy your gifts.
Something worth of note is that Bray holds numerous festivals throughout the year, especially in the summer, and was also the location for movies such as Braveheart and Excalibur.
