Amar e não ter / Loving and not having

Sobre o monte, e ter o peito arfante de emoção;

É andar arrastando correntes como a alma amaldiçoada penando sobre a terra;

Loving is having an incandescent volcano exploding unstoppably on the mount,
And having the breast heaving with emotion;
Is wanting to have the other on, under, near, inside, and the heart violently pound
And the lips thirsty of passion.

But loving and not having is to feel all the pain of the world weighing in the soul;
Is walking lonesomely amidst the throng and convulsively cry with sadness;
Is being a shepherd herding stones in the desert and drowning in valleys perched.

Loving is wanting to sing and having not the voice strong enough to tear the chest;
Is feeling like a god capable of creating worlds and fill everything with celestial things;
Is being an angel watching innocent dreams and being filled only with good feelings.

But loving and not having is losing the voice in a voluntary muteness,
In the unwillingness to speak or to make ourselves heard;
Is shouting and tearing the soul and the heart – but only in the inside,
Unbeknownst to everybody else;
Is seating on the rocks at Humaitá lighthouse and being unable to see beauty in the sunset;
Is not getting completely lost in the beautiful colors of the dusk.

Loving is turning the darkness of the night into party lights and shinning stars;
Is living in eternal days, in harmony, making suns and crystal mornings;
Is wanting to dance when there’s no music and awaken the most beautiful gift God has never bestowed men.

But loving and not having is to pray gloomily as the one who’s lost his faith and hope;
Is becoming solitary and not getting touched by the innocent tenderness of a child;
Is walking dragging chains as the cursed soul haunting the earth;
Is having an endless war destroying every single illusion.

Loving is feeling magnificent and having eternity on the palms of our hands;
Is being inundated with the universe, the voice of the Eternal and spiritual songs;
Is contemplating with passionate eyes the ugliness of existence
And being able to give lessons of peace from violence scenes;
Is living in bliss, in constant rapture, with thoughts coming and going towards the one we love.

But loving and not having is to live in despair
With every thought for the loved one coming back void, trembling in the bosom;
Is contemplating the Paradise and not being able to reach it as in the ancient parable.
Loving and not having is going mad every day
And having, at every minute, a somber face with no traces of laughter.

Loving is turning simple, ordinary words into poetry;
Is running through fields of carmine roses and being lost in unrestrained happiness.
Loving is feeling what I feel for you at every passing moment;
But loving and not having your beautiful eyes or your angelic smile, is withering in our primes;
Is seeing all the grace and all the best features that one day belonged to me fading into the face of Death.
